What happens when an inventory transaction is recategorised or deleted
AkountFly automatically cleans up breakdowns, items and open tasks when a transaction leaves the Inventory account: no ghost stock.
Mistakes happen: a bank transaction gets categorised to Inventory (1200), you provide a breakdown, and later realise it was actually an expense.
When you (or the platform) recategorise that transaction to a non-inventory account, void it, or delete it, AkountFly's integrity engine cascades the correction automatically:
- the linked breakdown is purged,
- items created from it are removed (or their quantities adjusted),
- related open tasks (like "provide breakdown") are closed,
- inventory valuation and COGS recalculate without the transaction.
You never end up with ghost stock or a stock register that disagrees with the GL. The original journal reversal itself follows the normal audit-trail rules: the old entry is reversed and the new one posted, both visible in All Transactions (General Ledger).
Attached costs are self-healing too. If a transaction you attached to a purchase as a landed cost (freight, clearing, duty) is later undone, recategorised or deleted from the bank feed, AkountFly automatically removes it from the purchase cost, recalculates your item costs, and raises a task asking you to double-check: you'll also see a warning the moment you make the change.
The same single-source-of-truth logic applies to products: deleting a product reverses its initial-stock journal, so the GL and the item register always move together.
Step-by-step
- 1Recategorise as usual
Fix the category on the Transactions page (Completed tab → pick new account → Save) or edit/void the source journal.
- 2Let the cascade run
AkountFly detects the transaction leaving the Inventory GL and purges the linked breakdown, items and open tasks automatically: nothing extra to do.
- 3Verify
Check Inventory → Transactions: the row is gone; the Items tab and Inventory Value card no longer include it.
The reversal and re-post journals remain visible in All Transactions for a clean audit trail.
